great post michelle! our school recommended "school safe soy butter", which we bought at natural food pantry and my kids love- link below (really, tastes just like peanut butter- so if your kids like peanut butter our school allows this....assuming no soy allergies in the class, though). we also do pizza wraps- spread some pasta sauce on a wrap, add pizza ingredients (we do green olives, some finely chopped veggies- you could puree them into the sauce like your pasta sauce) and sprinkle some cheese; put in microwave briefly to melt together, roll up and pack.

I would add to that list Mabels Labels. My two eldest have ADHD and lose everything;thank goodness for Mabel! If I get one thing back over the course of the year, it's worth the investment.

I also do a very short letter of introduction for each child and bring it to the teacher on the first day. It includes a few strengths and weaknesses, and any key info that the teacher should have right away, like the fact that they require preferential seating. I'm sure it's an enormous job learning all those little personalities at the beginning of the year, and I find the letter brings them to the teacher's attention and gets them off to a good start.

Hello, I came across your blog, and your story about your son's autism and you trying to find something that can help him rings true to my own heart. In case you are open to trying something new, I highly recommend you taking your son to Judy Spence. I have my own issues with food allergies which have been frustratingly misdiagnosed for 15 years. Mine come in way of stomach issues, but my son's are related to breathing (he is also a non-athsmatic on an inhaler) and he has a little A.D.D. If you are open to trying something different than conventional treatments, you should really contact her, it seems to be working for me: http://www.naetottawa.com/en/-asd.html
